New Girlguiding badges ‘relevant to girls’ lives now’

As part of Girlguiding’s biggest overhaul since the organisation was formed in 1910, its badges have had a makeover. There are also new additions to the set of 187 that girls can earn, including badges for inventing, vlogging and women’s rights.

New activities have been added under six main themes: Skills for my Future, Have Adventures, Be Well, Know Myself, Express Myself and Take Action. New skills include storytelling, inventing, human rights, craftivism, animation, coding and financial management.

Chris Davis, creative director of Red Stone – the creative agency that redesigned them – said: “Kids are pretty sophisticated and we really wanted to reflect some of the new things that girls and young women aspire to and enjoy. We hope they all become real keepsakes. It’s nice to deal with embroidered badges rather than pixels all the time.”
